"When in Rome......" Rome by tualborn

On the Carnival's ship the MAGIC - we stopped for a day in Rome....actually Citivecchia where the boat docked. Off the boat via bus, we walked on the street to the train station, with prebooked tickets to ROME, and got off at St. Peter's square. Our first stop in Rome was the Vatican Gardens (we booked a tour there months before) which was very, very nice as it is a limted tour with about 25 people. Gorgeous statues, trees and plants given to various Popes by nations and people. The views over the City were gorgeous, and the garden smelled lovely. IT was serene and inspiring. Afterwards we went to the Vatican Museum and the Cistine Chapel, but it was way too crowed for my taste....take the Garden tour for tranquility, history and the views.

The world famous Colluseum

We had only ONE (1) yes!! day in Rome, and wanted to see Everything! Walking is kinda out, not enough time, hot in late August and not to mention my bad feet! So, here is a great solution, take the "hop on hop off" bus. All the important sights are on the itinary. We got off at the Colluseum to walk around and see one of the most famous sights in the entire world. On the left the Palentine hill and all the ancient left over ruins, on the right the place where beasts and men tore each other apart.
Later on the tour with with the headphones it described all the other important places and sights, like the Tiber River and Island, Circus Maximus, temples and churches.
It was fabulous.

Rome

On the way back to the cruise ship MAGIC - we took the train at Termini Station for a fast ride back to Citivecchivia and met some fellow passengers with bottle(s) of wine to consume before boarding the cruise...it HAD to be gone, so we all helped drink up the good stuff.....YUMMMMMM

• Cons:Rome needs more than a day to explore.
