Tasmania is the anchor for the mainland Tasmania is a state of Australia yet an island on its own--it is a diverse place with two cities --one north which is Launceston and the capital of Hobart to the south. It consists of beautiful beaches, forests, wild rivers, mountains, and wilderness over on the west coast. It used to be the apple isle but the orchards have basically gone which is sad.My husband and my father were born in Tasmania and have family who live there who have never left the state--they say why travel when we have everything we need here.Anyway it really is a great place and if you haven't been yet,go. |

| | Petrified forest near Cradle Mountain This is a petrified forest we stumbled across on one of our walks near Cradle mountain --the moss was amazing. The pic does not capture the true colours but the spirit of the place did. If you do any hiking look out for one of these places they are pretty special. |
