Name of Shop: Baiyoke Market and Pratunam
Pratunam Market is one of Bangkok's major markets, focusing on clothes which makes it Thailand's largest clothing market after Bobae. The name Pratunam means Water gate. Lots of South East Asians from other countries like Vietnam, Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia buy wholesale here and then sell them at retail prices in their country and make a lot of profit! The market is open 24 hours a day with varying offerings, from 9-20 (in reality more like 11-18) the retail shops are open, later on the evening outdoor stalls mainly geared for tourists come to populate the street sides. It's located at the intersection of Ratchaprarop and Phetburi roads in the district Ratchathewi. This is the cheapest market for buying clothes, fabrics and textiles in central Bangkok, while the Chatuchak weekend market probably is the low price leader and Bobae is famous for Russian and Slavic Tourist buyers. Other merchandise include watches, handicraft and others. Pratunam market covers the whole area around and behind Amari Watergate and Indra Regent hotels with the rainbow colored Baiyoke I hotel and the towering Baiyoke Tower II hotels inside it. If you're a tourist do not hesitate to enter the small alleyways and jampacked small streets, the area is very safe unless you do something stupid like keep your wallet in your back pocket. If the area looks unappealing you might consider doing your clothes shopping at nearby Platinum Fashion Mall. Buying Streetfoods is very popular there and very cheap! Not all Thai Foods are Spicy
What To Buy: Pratunam is an area renowned for low-cost clothes and ladies accessories. It is not evident from the outside on Phet Buri Road, there are hundreds and hundreds of small clothes shops along the small pedestrian lanes and the shopping complexes inside, both wholesale and retail. The easiest entrance to Pratu Nam is walking southward from Baiyoke Tower. The shops now extend to various malls in the area such as City Complex, Pratunam Plaza, and The Platinum Fashion Mall. As a Filipino-American, I love to buy "Pasalubong" (souvenirs) to my relatives in the Philippines and the states and I discovered a really cheap stall to buy stylish bags for the ladies. the name of the stall is HUNG HENG PANICH and it is located at 222/223, 1rst floor Bai Yoke Tower 2, Pratunam Bangkok 10400. Tel No is: 02-656-3721. their email is jirainternational@gmail.com
What To Pay: Fake jeans and shirts cost as little as 100 baht. Export overruns of the real articles like Polo Ralph Lauren, Nautica, Tommy Hilfiger, Abercrombie etc, starts from 300 baht. Ladies bags for souvenirs starts at 90 Baht.

Name of Shop: Chatuchak Weekend Market
Chatuchak weekend market in Bangkok is the largest market in Thailand, and possibly the largest in the world. It is frequently called J.J. Chatuchak covers over 35 acres (1.13 km²) or about 11 hectares and contains upwards of 15,000 stalls. About 200,000 to 300,000 visit and shop there each day. Most stalls only open on Saturdays and Sundays.Chatuchak has in theory been segregated into areas depending on the types of goods sold, and there are maps available for the market which detail the various sections. You're as well to just forget them and just wander wherever takes your fancy, as it is an extremely disorientating place of many narrow alleys and trying to follow a map around can prove very frustrating. Chatuchak always gets very hot and humid during the day that you have to buy bottled water every 30 minutes or so! and it's far from the most comfortable shopping experience but for most people the benefits outweigh the disadvantages. Going early in the day when it is a bit cooler is recommended. The first flea market in Bangkok was held at Sanam Luang and was called Sanam Luang flea Market. However, there was time when the place was needed for other special functions and the flea market was then relocated to Saranrom Palace and settled there for 8 years. After that, it was moved again to Sanam Chai. But because of the limited space, it had to be moved back to Sanam Luang. In the same year, the government issued a policy to turn Sanam Luang into a public park for citizens of Bangkok and to be the venue to celebrate 200-year-anniversary of Bangkok, which would be held in 1982. Thus, it was decided that the flea market would be held at the Phahonyothin area from then on and it is later called Chatuchak Market after the nearby park under the same name. Chatuchak is open from 08:00am - 18:00pm on weekends and Fridays (wholesale day). Plant shops are open Wednesdays and Thursdays too from 07:00am- 18:00pm.
What To Buy: The market offers a wide variety of products including household items, clothing, Thai handicrafts, religious artifacts, collectibles, foods, and live animals. It is offers the lowest price of goods if you know what how to haggle. Chatuchak is a particularly good place to buy all sorts of Thai handicrafts, as there's a huge range, the quality is high and the intense competition keeps the prices low. Be careful when buying antiques, the large majority on offer are fake and telling the difference between the genuine and the copies can be extremely difficult. Genuine antiques require a permit to be taken out of the country, but you will also need a permit if a fake is good enough to fool the inspecting customs officer. Bargaining is expected, if not mandatory, at Chatuchak and the prices are generally substantially cheaper than the shopping centers and street stalls on Silom and Sukhumvit. Many shops in the more centrals areas of the city also have a branch here, selling the same goods for much lower prices. The prices are amazing. A recent small craze went around the tourists visiting Bangkok who found wooden frogs that you could rub with a small stick and the frog would sound like its real life copy. These frogs in Bangkok centre were for sale at 150 Baht in Chatuchak they could be had for around 80 Baht ! Deals such as this are common place in Chatuchak and while many of the stalls expect you to bargain (and you should always try) some stalls will not as they use a fixed price system. The majority though are on a negotiate basis and you should normally aim at around 50% of the first price offered. If you are with a Thai or speak a reasonable amount of Thai then you may go straight to the better prices from the start so get practicing !
What To Pay: The real charm of the Chatuchak Weekend Market lies in the fact that you can-and should-bargain with each stall you are interested in. Whether you will snare a bargain or not is a test of your own negotiating skills. So, don' t be surprised if the same goods bought by you and your friends from the same shop carry different prices. Now, are you ready to begin your quest to find what you have been searching high and low for ? Well then, mingle with the crowds, sweat it out and have fun in The World's Biggest Weekend Market.

Name of Shop: Siam Paragon
Siam Paragon is an upscale shopping mall in Bangkok, Thailand. It is one of the biggest shopping centers in Asia. Opened on December 9, 2005, it includes a wide range of stores and restaurants as well as a multiplex movie theater (consisted of 15 large size theaters with one of the them having the biggest screen and seating capacity in Asia) and the Siam Ocean World aquarium (the largest aquarium in South East Asia) and an exhibition hall and also an opera concert hall. It also has a large bowling alley and karaoke center. It is a joint venture by Siam Piwat, the company that owns the adjacent Siam Center/Siam Discovery shopping malls, and The Mall Group, which also owns The Emporium. Ground Floor : Gourmet Market. Actually the Gourmet Market at Siam Paragon is what must be the largest supermarket in Thailand, about the size of a standard soccer field. It indeed has a lot of gourmet foods for sale, beside regular supermarket goods. The bakery at Gourmet Market (operating under the name Le Boulanger) unexplicably is way below par (unless you like orange or pink colored sandwich bread). So if you buy an expensive salad (see below), you are advised to buy your rolls somewhere else. A useful comparison is the salad bar which most supermarkets in Bangkok feature. Foodland sells at 7 baht/100 grams of salad, Tops Supermarket sells at 12 baht/100 grams and the Gourmet Market at Siam Paragon charges a whopping 25 baht/100 grams. Of course, with higher prices come somewhat more exotic fruits and vegetables to choose from. MF (Mezzanine Floor?) : Beauty Hall First Floor : Fashion Venue - The Lingrie Salon Second Floor : Paragon Men - Sports Mall Global Third Floor : Read & Write - Paragon Kids Fourth Floor : Power Mall Ultra - Paragon Living
What To Buy: The Paragon Department Store comprises 50,000 square meters. Another 40,000 square meters are devoted to retail shops selling luxury brand apparel, jewellery, electronics, musical instruments, audio equipment, sporting goods and exotic supercars, as well as a Kinokuniya book store. Some of the most renowned boutiques found in Siam Paragon include Gucci, Chanel, Balenciaga, Valentino, Kenzo, Hermès, Giorgio Armani, Jimmy Choo, Chloè, Dolce & Gabbana, Burberry and Salvatore Ferragamo. The 25,000-square-meter Paragon Cineplex comprises a 14-screen multiplex movie theater as well as an IMAX theater and the Siam Pavali, a 1,200-seat theater suitable for theatrical and musical performances. Siam Ocean World, the biggest aquarium in Southeast Asia, bigger than atoll reef in Singapore, is located inside. The entrance fee to the aquarium for children is 280 baht and 450 baht for adults. The Gourmet Market is an 8,000 square meter grocery store on the lower level of the shopping center. It is adjacent to a food court area that has a wide range of restaurants and food stalls and this is MY FAVORITE PLACE in SIAM Paragon as you can buy food using Magnetic Swipe Cards which you load with credits at a counter and buy clean but cheap thai and international food for as little as 25 baht for different thai noodles and up to 150 for rice dishes, my favorite was cha yen (Thai Iced Tea), Khao niaw Ma Muang (Mango with Sticky Rice) for 60 Baht since it is Similar to "Puto Maya", (filipino version of mango with sticky rice). Off Course Philippine Carabao Mangoes are Sweeter! (as certified by the guiness book of world records)
What To Pay: Very expensive to shop here! much like sak's 5th avenue or bloomingdales or neiman marcus, just buy souvenirs at chatuchak do the budget culinary tripping here! Shopping Tip: For 5% discount on most purchases, you can apply for a Tourist Discount Card at the information desk on the ground level.

Name of Shop: Jim Thompson's Shops
The Jim Thompson House, now a museum, is the second most popular tourist attraction in Bangkok, surpassed only by the Grand Palace in visitor attendance. Jim Thompson was an American who was born in Greenville, Delaware, in 1906. A practicing architect prior to World War II, he volunteered for service in the U.S. Army, campaigned in Europe, and came to Asia as part of the force that planned to liberate Thailand. However, the war ended before the operation. He arrived in Bangkok a short time later as a military intelligence officer attached to the O.S.S. After leaving the service, he decided to return and live in Thailand permanently. The hand weaving of silk, a long-neglected cottage industry, captured Jim Thompson's attention, and he devoted himself to reviving the craft. Highly gifted as a designer and textile colorist, he contributed substantially to the industry's growth and to the worldwide recognition accorded to Thai silk.He gained further renown through the construction of his house combining six teak buildings which represented the best of traditional Thai architecture. Most of the houses were at least two centuries old and were easily dismantled and brought to the present site, some from as far away as the old capital of Ayutthaya. On March 27th 1967, Jim Thompson disappeared while on a visit to the Cameron Highlands in Malaysia. Not a single valid clue has turned up in the ensuing years as to what might have happened to him. His famous Thai house, however, remains as a lasting reminder of his creative ability and his deep love of Thailand.
What To Buy: The cafe has great food and drinks and the shop is full of wonderful gifts of the highest quality. It is a really lovely place to visit when you are feeling tired of the noise and crowds of this city. They have a guided tour though the english pronunciaton is suspect. Jim Thompson Company has a lot of branches that sell a lot of things besides thai silk like antiques, sofa's, Bed, Chairs, etc.
What To Pay: Very Expensive!

Name of Shop: Mah Boon Krong(MBK)
MBK Center, also known as Mahboonkrong, is an enormous marble shopping mall in Bangkok, Thailand. At eight stories high and 330 metres long, with 2,500 shops using a total selling area of 89,000 square metres. This shopping mall used to be one of the biggest malls in Asia, when it first founded in 1985. It is particularly well known for its many vendors of mobile phones and other electronics, as well as furniture stores.MBK Center has an average of 105,000 customers daily, and is considered to be the most visited mall in the country. In MBK, fashion outlets cover everything from jeans, outsized clothing (for the 'larger' Western frame), shoes, handbags, accessories, jewellery, trendy apparel and famous-name brands. The bargain prices of many of these items mean that merchandise is often copy products or from questionable origin. It's important to take a closer look at the quality and craftsmanship. But if your idea of a shopping bargain is to pay a few dollars for an Adidas T-shirt or a Gucci belt - and authenticity is not an issue - head straight to MBK. Many of the products that can be found here are similar to that at markets, but the convenience of shopping in an air-conditioned environment beats hot and sticky markets - especially in the hot season. And, just like the markets, all prices are negotiable; MBK is probably the only mall in Bangkok where you can put your bartering skills to the test. You'll be surprised how much a big smile can knock of the original asking price. If you're shopping wholesale, prices get even more competitive.
What To Buy: for dried fruit (or what thai's call dehydrated fruit) THAI FRUIT Location: Zone B,Floor 3 Tel:026209338, dried mangoes 500 grams for 90 baht (Off course philippine dried mangoes are sweeter and tastier but are more expensive at about roughly 64 baht for 200 grams), dried jackfruit, dried tamarind, 3 100 gram packs for 100 baht. chinese sausages 3 packs for 100 baht, longkong (lansones in philippines) is 90 baht a kilo. There are other dizzying varietes of dried fruit and thai snacks! for eating, I ate at sizzlers at level 7, it is near the cinemas. they have at large hotplate wherein you use porkfat to cook a variety of meats, vegetables, etc and eat them with rice and sauce and a kind of thai Hot Pot soup. Very good and the price was ok at about 150 baht for 2 person. at the ground floor, they have a food center selling all kind of thai foods like thai iced tea, Kao niao Durian (sticky rice with durian), Kah-Feh Yen (thai iced tea), Gluay buad chee (banana w/ coconut milk) a variety of thai noodles and coolers. more expenive than in chatuchak but is cleaner.
What To Pay: Shopping Tip: Tourists can apply for a special MBK Tourist Discount Card at the information kiosks on the first and second levels (remember to take your passport along). Armed with this card you will be entitled of discounts between 5 and 30% on selected merchandise and at some restaurants - a list of participating stores will be provided when you apply for the card.

Name of Shop: Siam Square Shops
Siam Square's first buildings were constructed in 1965 on land belonging to Chulalongkorn University. The aim was to provide rental income for the university. Its magnificent has brought many investors to set up other businesses like hotels, shopping centres and restaurants.Eager to connect to Siam Square, surrounding businesses sought to make connections to the area, including an air-conditioned pedestrian overpass from MBK Centre.Siam Sqaure therefore presently becomes one of the most favorite shopping place in Bangkok, especially among teenagers. Name of Shop: King Power Duty Free
Dominating Bangkok's new Suvarnabhumi Airport duty free shopping is the King Power group (King Power International Group is the largest of Duty Free and Tax Free service in Thailand with 72 outlets at the domestic and international terminal in Thailand ’s major international airports including 3 downtown outlets and King Power Complex) who have acres of space, quite literally. Duty-free prices at Suvarnabhumi airport in my experience are average. With the Thai baht climbing against most other currencies and particularly against the US dollar (exchange rate roughly US$1=Bt30.20 off shore and 33.20 in shore) a pack of Marlboro Cigarettes costs about US$22 compared with US$ 18 or less at some other airports in asia. King Power also promotes OTOP (one tambon one product, an idea originated in japan) which is a scheme that encourages each village in Thailand to produce its own inimitable product, drawing on folk wisdom and local character. You will find a breathtaking assortment of art, crafts and practical goods of the very highest quality here.
What To Buy: the usual foreign brands like dunhill, marlboro, la coste, nike, etc. arts and handicrafts of northern hill tribe peoples, thai handicraft made by disabled people, Sai Yai Rak or thai modern art designs, OTOP products like assorted thai dessert (400 Baht a pack), Thai Coconut flavored wafer sticks at 160-200 baht a pack, Thai Butter Cookies at 200 Baht a pack, Dried Mangoes at 160 Baht (expensive! only cost 90 baht in MBK), Dried Tamarinds at 150 Baht (again expensive)
What To Pay: almost double the price of native goods than in bangkok.

Name of Shop: Local Markets and Street Vendors
Sukhumvit Road begins in Bangkok, as a continuation of the Rama I and Phloenchit roads which span Pathum Wan district. Starting from where the boundaries of the districts of Khlong Toei, Pathum Wan and Watthana meet, it runs the entire length of the border between Khlong Toei and Watthana, then passes through Phra Khanong and Bang Na districts. Every evening, both sides of Sukhumvit Road--from Soi 3 (Nana) to about Soi 17--teems with counterfeit goods of sorts. Your favorite brand names are available in all shapes and sizes at incredible prices. As the strip is close to the Nana Entertainment Plaza and near dozens of good restaurants, hotels (like my hotel Amari Bouevard) and pubs (like my favorite Gullivers) , there is absolutely no way to be bored on your trek. "Walk, shop, drink and party" is truly the best way to sum up a visit to this part of Sukhumvit but beware, it is cheaper to buy in Chatuchak or even pratunam.
What To Buy: Counterfeit Soccer Shirts at 150 Baht, Pants at 300 Baht, Durian at 50 Baht a Kilo. Assorted Key Chains and Trinkets at 50 Baht (expensive!), Pirated DVD movies for 80-120 Baht, Roasted Coconut Juice at 20 Baht, Cha Yen (thai iced tea at 18 Baht) Eat at Took Lae Dee in Foodland or at Thai Food Terrace and Beer at Tunnel Bar and A Lot more!

Name of Shop: River City Complex
This is home to a large number of prestigious art and antiques shops and prices are, not surprisingly, very high. It has several good restaurants which are reasonably priced though, and give impressive views over the Chao Phraya river Thai magic you can touch. Founded in 1984, this shopping adventure is located on the Chao Phraya River next to the Royal Orchid Sheraton. It features 192 shops and presents an ideal place to look for hand-woven Thai silk and cotton, gems and jewelry, decorative objects, leather goods, antiques, handicrafts and other souvenirs. On the first Saturday of every month, starting at 1:30p, an auction of antiques and other art objects is held on the fourth floor at the Riverside Auction House. Also around here is a street market, selling fake and cheap clothes, cheap handicrafts etc...It's pretty similar to the stalls on Sukhumvit road and the Nana Night Market. Also number of competing firms provide the option of an evening dinner cruise along the Chao Phraya River. It’s a pleasant way to enjoy Bangkok and the ‘River of Kings’ at night, with a typical cruise taking around 2 hours and ranging in price from 800 – 2,000 Baht and most of this River Cruise originate at RIVER CITY Complex. A free shuttle service runs to and from nearby major hotels located on the river.
What To Buy: The River City complex might look like just another modern mall, but the third and fours floors are the hub of Bangkok's trade in all things old and beautiful. The glass-fronted galleries are well-lit to show off the detail of the pieces they house - be they original antiques or tasteful reproductions. Antiques from all over Asia find their way here, and the most venerated being century's old, gold-covered images of Buddha.Don't be fooled by the calm, non-crowded ambience of River City. It may seem devoid of the shopping hoards, but this is a specialist market and 80% of shoppers make a purchase - more than enough to keep the businesses housed here afloat. This large complexoffers four floors of top quality and top priced Thai products. Exquisite 18 carat gold Benjarong, hand woven silks, Buddha images, porcelain, art galleries and two whole floors crammed with antiques and reproductions. Not all shops stock Thai antiques but you will find the largest selection of Asian antiques in Bangkok here. Bargaining here can be most rewarding since this center has Bangkok's best collection of antique shops — but these are (for most part) the real thing and priced to match. Note that real antiques and any religious images will require export licenses, although the shops can arrange this for you (for a fee).
What To Pay: A lot since Antiques command a premium price! (but you can haggle)

Name of Shop: Siam Center / Siam Discovery Center
Siam Center is one of the oldest malls in Thailand, but also one of the most vital. Situated slap-bang in the centre of what is called 'the battleground of the malls' - and easily dwarfed by the bigger and flashier malls - few know that Siam Center was there before all the others (Constructed in 1976) A skybridge connects the fourth floor of Siam Center with Siam Discovery. A courtyard between the two malls is often host to concerts and special events. Additionally, a skybridge from the Skytrain's National Stadium station and MBK Center connects to Siam Discovery. Siam Center has four floors which contains about 300 shops, 20 restaurants and a cheerful and spacious food court. Vibey music is played throughout the corridors, broadcast by the resident 94EFM radio station on the fourth floor. Loads of skate and surf shops, together with lifestyle brands such as Monkey See, Levis and Von Dutch draw in chattering troupes of teenagers. There are a number of clothing boutiques with outfits designed for nubile bodies. A substantial spread of camera and mobile accessory shops - essential to the digitally enlightened generation - can be found here too. Cute jewellery and all the paraphernalia that signifies coolness, can be found throughout. Speciality stores feature shoes, hair accessories and sexy underwear. The six-story Siam Discovery Center was built in 1997. It is positioned to serve a slightly more mature market than Siam Center. Its latest theme is "One Floor, One Concept", which groups similar stores on one floor. Among the stores is Thailand's only Diesel designer clothing store as well as Asia's only branch of the Habitat home furnishings retailer. Loft, a popular Japanese giftshop is also located there. EGV's Grand cinema and Gold Class theater are on the sixth floor
What To Buy: A range of cosmetic salons with attentive beauty consultants attend to the needs of the fresh-faced visitors who frequent the mall. Ice cream parlours, cake and coffee shops provide the necessary refueling of calories. A fantastic spot for observing the spending and social habits of the mall-going youth is from a vantage point of a table on the fourth floor food court, aptly called 'f for fun'. Excellent food for very reasonable prices. On the ground floor, a trendy open-plan café has free Internet access. There is, alas, no cinema in Siam Center itself, but walk through the pipeline tunnel that connects it to Siam Discovery and there you will find - along with a very different atmosphere altogether - cinemas galore. The cinema halls inside the Siam Discovery Center in Bangkok are very comfortable. There are reclining seats, large screens, tables with ice buckets. One can book the entire cinema hall for private viewing. There are electronic items, various other goods which are come from the various parts of the world. All these goods are cheap and easily available. Do not miss the fun of visiting the place.
What To Pay: Cinema tickets at Siam Discovery are often a little more expensive, but the seats are extremely comfortable. Siam Center has older shops, and tends to have cheaper prices than Siam Discovery center. Siam Center: Opens: 9:00am - 21:00pm everyday Siam Discovery: Open: 10:00am - 22:00pm everyday
