Kinnaree Gourmet Thai and Restaurant Bar: Authentic Thai cuisine in the heart of Bangkok
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Restaurant Name: Kinnaree Gourmet Thai and Restaurant Bar

Kinnaree is a new fine dining experience of authentic Thai cuisine in the heart of Bangkok . The restaurant is hidden in a romantic charming garden in Sukhumvit Soi 8. Customers are offered a choice of equally comfortable indoor or alfresco dining. The decoration presents a cozy and intimate ambience with eye soothing table setting of “lotus leaf” plates with lotus napkin-rings imitating the “Anodard Pond” from the story of “Pra Suthon & Mahnorah”, An ancient romantic story between human and kinnaree--a half human half bird, lives in the forest of heaven. The Staff are very friendly and have a fairly good grasp of english, the place is very plush and combines traditional thai with modern architecture. They treat you as royalty here!

Favorite Dish: Soft Shell Crabs in Chili Sauce! (The Best!!), Yellow Curry with Shrimp, Foie Gras with Tamarind Source, “Light of kinnaree”--House-signature cocktail, and finish your meal with Kinnaree Fresh Young Coconut Cake.

sweetest Lansuim fruit in Asia!: Longkong! Lansium Fruit
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Bangkok - Longkong! my Favorite!
  • Longkong! my Favorite!
  • by machomikemd

  • Restaurant Name: sweetest Lansuim fruit in Asia!

I am a long kong ( a variety of lansium fruit) lover since we grow lansium fruit in the philippines and harvest it at september-october. We have a 5 hectare plantation there that I missed eating lansium fruit since i'ved moved to the states. I would be first to admit that the thai longkong are sweeter than philippine duku variety of lansium fruit (called lansones in the philippines).

Lansium or Long kong fruits have orbs around five centimeters in diameter, usually found in clusters of two to thirty fruits. Each round fruit is covered by yellowish, thick, leathery skin. Underneath the skin, the fruit is divided into five or six slices of translucent, juicy flesh. The flesh is slightly acidic in taste, although ripe specimens are sweeter. Green, seeds are present in around half of the segments, usually taking up a small portion of the segment although some seeds take up the entire segment's volume. In contrast with the sweet-sour flavor of the fruit's flesh, the seeds are extremely bitter.

Favorite Dish: it costs 80 to 100 Baht a kilogram.

Cha Yen "Thai Iced Tea": Cha Yen Thai Iced Tea!

  • Restaurant Name: Cha Yen "Thai Iced Tea"

Cha Yen or Cold tea in Thai is their version of Iced Tea since Iced teas are popular around asia (tarik tea of malaysia, pearl milk tea of hong kong, pandanus tea of the philippines, bubble tea of Singapore, etc). It is made from strongly-brewed powdered black tea.

Other ingredients in the powder vary, but may include added star anise, tamarind or red and yellow food coloring, and sometimes other spices as well. This tea is sweetened with sugar and condensed milk and served chilled. Evaporated or whole milk is generally poured over the tea and ice before serving--it is never mixed prior to serving--to add taste and creamy appearance. Locally, it is served in a traditional tall glass and when ordered take-out, it is poured over the crushed ice in a clear (or translucent) plastic bag. It can also be made into a frappé at more westernised vendors.

Favorite Dish: it is available everywhere and is even peddled by street vendors wherein they put in it big 500 ml plastic glass containers with lots of ice. it cost about 17 Baht a glass but in restaurants, it cost 30-50 baht!

  • Restaurant Name: Pad Thai!

There have evolved two different styles of Pad Thai: the version most often found in the streets of Thailand, which is relatively dry and light; and the version that seems dominant in many restaurants in the West, which may be covered in a red oil and can be heavy tasting.

This dish was introduced and made popular as a national dish by Thai Prime Minister Luang Phibunsongkhram during World War II. Pad Thai is one of the best-known Thai dishes.

Pad Thai Cost 30 Baht at Street Stalls, 45-50 Baht at Pratunam Market, 55-60 Baht at Tuk Lae Dee foodland and 100 Baht at Kinnaree Gourmet Thai Restaurant.
