"Mount St. Helens" Mount Saint Helens National Volcanic Monument by phildeni

The valley

The valley was 600 feet deeper before the eruption of the volcano.

Mass Destruction

There are still some pretty places near the mountain, but mostly it is void of vegetation.

There is still some wildlife

We did not see too many signs of wildlife, but the little Chipmonk was quite good at begging for treats. In the picture he is taking a "mint" from Geoff's hand. A MINT! and the little guy liked it.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Well worth the drive to get to it for photos
  • Cons:You can't get very close, and have a good vehicle.
  • In a nutshell:Vast devastation..hard to imagine it.

I remember the films of the eruption, a very impressive display of natures power.
