A brief history spiced with Myth

A demon called Thanjan gave life to this wonderful city.When Thanjan was being killed by Lord Vishnu he pleaded ' O lord , let there be a joyous city on this spot of river Cauvery where you have chosen to slay me ...........'
Today it is a city of lush greenery, a divine river ( though only during rains !!!) with a population entrenched in culture,religion,architecture and literature.
Thanjavur boasts of a World heritage Site right in the middle of the city - The astounding Brihadeeswara temple.There also plenty of other places worth visiting in and around the city.You will need two days to do justice to this most amazing town.
