Fisherman's Wharf: Fisherman's Wharf=Tourist Trap

  • Fisherman's Wharf, is just a crumby tourist trap. There's nothing of much interest there just touristy T-shirt shops, trinkets, and salt water taffy places you've probably seen before everywhere else. IT's extremely unrewarding a big waste of time considering all the other great parts of SF to visit.

At Least Do This: Go quickly take the cable car to or from and make sure you don't spend too much time there.
Alternative: Go to the Farmers Market in the Embarcadero. It's still in about the same area more or less, but at least you'll be doing something genuinely nice.

    Pier 39: Pier 39 - 16 = Pier 23
  • Tip Rating:
  • Pier 39. Well it's kind cool to see the seals and it's kind of cool to hang around there, but it's still kind of a tourist trap.

Alternative: I highly recommend that you go to pier 23 instead. It's a groovy spot, there are seals, it's a little bit less crowded and a little farther away from the crowd of tourists. Even some locals go to pier 23 which you can not say of pier 39.

We'll be visiting San Francisco in July--I had heard Fisherman's Wharf is a 'tourist trap', so thanks for the warning once again. Also, we'll head to Pier 23 instead of Pier 39. What about lodging in Embarcadero? Enjoy your weekend...regards from Texas
