Day Trips: Go North Young Traveler (and Old)
  • Tip Rating:
  • Go North Over the Golden Gate Bridge and head towards Mount Tamalpais in Marin County. It is a beautiful drive/ hike on hills and cliffs overlooking the coast! It's so amazing to sea the lion colored hills cascading into the sea with a loan scrub oak buffeted by the wind. Man, this really is one of the most beautiful spots in america!

Fo North Over the Golden Gate Bridge (Highway 101 Highway 1) to the Stinson Beach exit and follow signs up the mountain.

  • Raibow Grocery now in the 'Mission' part of town is a great sustainable, natural foods, organic, good food market. It's an institution in SF and while it is a little 'New Agey', it nonetheless has wonderful bulk products. Great tea, cheeses, olive oil, fish, organic produce, toiletries you name it! I go there everytime I go to SF and stock up. It's also a worker owned cooperative and they practice what they preach.

Beaches / Pacific Coast: Drake Bay, Tamales, Point Reyes
  • Tip Rating:
  • Head North of SF into Marin county. Go to Mt. Tamalpais, and head up towards Point Reyes, Tamales Bay and Drakes Bay. You will not be sorry! You feel so free, cruising around and enjoying the scenery, small towns etc.

We'll be visiting San Francisco in July--I had heard Fisherman's Wharf is a 'tourist trap', so thanks for the warning once again. Also, we'll head to Pier 23 instead of Pier 39. What about lodging in Embarcadero? Enjoy your weekend...regards from Texas
