This is where I live. It's quite a nice spot. Marina del Rey right next to Venice Beach, is the largest yacht moorage in the world and most of its activities are centered around sailing, yachting and cocktailing at places on the docks as you might imagine. In the 70's the Marina was very much like 3's Company. I keep searching for the Regal Beagle. My dental hygienist (in her 60's) told me that the Marina conjures up images of hairy chested medallion wearing divorced swingers in their 40's and 50's and certainly theres a bit of that which is rather humorous, but it's also a quiet peaceful nautical haven within a major metropolis. Because there's no parking and it's a bit inaccessible compared to other beaches, in the summer, you can walk out the door and have an uncrowded beach to yourself, while the teeming masses elbow each other a half mile down the beach. |
| | The View From the Front Door The Marina Penninsula, bordered on one side, by a lovely canal ( a remnant of a crazy developers scheme to turn Venice, CA into a Venice, Italy like place) and the ocean on the other is characterized by its pedestrian walks (most streets are dead ends) and so you can just stroll around and enjoy the beach. Washington Street houses most of the restaurants, bars and shops that you'll find. |

| | The cool thing is you can pretty much walk everywhere including the beach which is a huge, pleasant rarity in a place like LA.
For nightlife, and restaurants, I usually go out in Venice or Santa Monica and you should too. Check out those pages for more fun stuff to do. |
