"People Love to Hate It. But we don't really care" Los Angeles by giampiero6

Many People hate on LA and I can understand why. I was one of those people. There is no real center that is beautiful. There is no real culture. There is no gracious sense of history.

Lots of People who come to LA want to be in the Entertainment Industry. They want to get famous or whatever. These are not necessarily the kind of people you want to meet, but hey what can you do?

However, if you find a good group of friends it can be a very casual, attractive and human lifestyle. You can really enjoy life here. The weather is wonderful, it is really dynamic because there is no such thing as rules or tradition here, people reinvent themselves daily. Yes, this can make for a hollow existence, but it can be extremely interesting and dynamic..especially if you know who you are and don't depend on the outside world that much.

Los Angeles is also surrounded by BEAUTIFUL settings. In 30 minutes you can be in glorious nature, and you'll never believe you are within 10 miles of a giant metropolis. I love to get out and hike almost every weekend. Here above you can see the view from Sandstone Peak just north of Malibu. 3111feet above the pacific ocean which you can see below us as the white area on the horizon.

LA Is a Huge Sprawl of Many Sub-Cities

When people say LA, they usually mean one of the areas in LA county...that could be Malibu, Venice, Marina Del Rey, Beverly Hills, Hollywood, Santa Monica, The (dreaded) Valley. Personally I prefer the western part of LA that is on the ocean for several reasons. It's near the ocean and that means you can easily go swimming, it also means the air is relatively smog free, and the temp is nice and cool in the summer and mild in the winter.

Much More to See

Halloween is my favorite Holiday and WestHollywood throws a GREAT gigantic Mardi Gras like street party. Check out the Halloween Awesomeness Galore!

The Soccer in LA Travelogue, "Vinnie Jones Tried to Whack Me" is Pretty Funny Too. Check it out.

Please check out my Santa Monica, Venice and Marina Del Rey Pages for down home info on the various areas of LA. And feel free to drop me a note if you want some advice on the LA area.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Sunny and 70 degree weather almost all the time, beautiful mountains and beaches in Malibu and Santa Monica Mountains, great entertainment and multicultural food scene, dynamic culture
  • Cons:Not pedestrian friendly, poor public transit, smog, traffic, not really a tourist town, expensive
  • In a nutshell:A wonderful place to live for the vibrant dynamic culture, proximity to great nature, not the most rewarding place to visit

Nah, L.A. is great! :-) And hiking in and around L.A. is awesome, like Angeles National Forest or even Chatsworth Park. Deserted center? What happened to good ol' Olvera Street?

How about you make it to the Orlando Meet instead? This year's trip sees me hitting Baltimore, Tampa, Orlando, Miami, Key West, Key Largo and, of course, Vegas (baby)! Gillybob greetings
