I have been to Joshua Tree probably about 10 times in the 7 years that I have lived in LA. It's truly and amazing place expecially in the winter and especially if you are visiting from a colder wetter clime. The hot sun, blue skies, minimalist landscape and unparallelled rock climbing is fabulous. Out in the desert you can't help but feel renewed, and rejuventated. It seems like all the stress and bad mojo just gets sweated and dried out of you.
Joshua Tree is named after the strange shaped tree that many people know from the now famous U2 album of the same name. I can't really tell the difference between a Joshua Tree and a Yucca (cause they are more similar than you think) so if a pic I have labeled as Joshua Tree is a Yucca, well then pickle me in vinegar.
Anyhoo. The desert is hot, dry and forbidding, but the beautiful and subtle wonders of it close up are really something else.
