Indian Auto Rickshaw Challenge 2007-2008

In January 2008, I took part in the Indian Autorickshaw Challenge which was a charity rally winding 1000km through Tamil Nadu from Chennai/Madras to Kanyakumari on SELF DRIVEN AUTORICKSHAWS. It was part death wish, part Amazing Race, and part ridiculous lark. My teammates Meghan, Konstantin, and I loved visiting this part of the world and encountering the legendary warmth and friendship of South India. In the end, I'm glad to say, we won the race!

A. Pre- Race
Elaborate and Thorough Training Day

1. Chennai to Pondicherry - 76km (47 miles)
You can't live forever!

B. Day-off for New Year celebrations.
PUTHANDU NAL VALTHUKAL = HAPPY NEW YEAR

2. - Pondicherry to Thanjavur - 113km (70 miles)
Man, I cannot wait to get out there again!

3. Thanjavur to Madurai - 177km (110 miles)
Mayhem and Disaster...for the others.

4. Madurai to Rameswaram - 173km (108 miles)
Getting in the groove

5. Rameswaram to Tuticorin - 181km (113 miles)
No Look Sri Lanka!

6. Tuticorin to Courtallam - 100km (62 miles)
Country Stroll

7. Courtallam to Kanniyakumari - 160km (99 miles)
Monkeys. Big Time! And Victory is within reach!

Total: 1024km (636 miles)

C. Rest and Relaxation
Off to Kerala for RnR

Great tuk-tuk challenge! Will read the blog soon, too. Will be compilling a comprehensive cycle guide when I take a break on reaching Nepal. Hope to carry on Nepal to Oz at end of year. Cheers my friend.
