Niamey

Niamey, capital city of Niger, is a medium-sized city spread along the banks of the Niger River. A city of contrasts, you'll see modern buildings and good French, Italian, and Chinese restaurants alongside camels carrying stacks of straw mats and goats wandering the streets. Niger is a multi-cultural country, and Niamey is a mixture of those cultures. You'll see representatives of all of Niger's ethnic groups, and can get a nice overview of the country at the National Museum in the city's center. A good selection of handicrafts is available at many locations throughout the city, from Tuareg silver and stone carvings to leather boxes and blankets.
