Work in progress....still got lots to put up

by jankenpon - last update: May 28, 2007

Lots of pictures and advise to put up eventually

Kailua, Hawaii - where I grew up.
Found this website looking for tips on travel in Georgia. And as I use others advise, I feel indebted to put up new advise as well as share my experiences in other parts of the world. Its going to take me awhile to get it all on here so just be patient and check back often.
South Point Beach

Yes I left this for the Army.

As you can see I have traveled a lot since leaving home, but Hawai'i will always be the best place to visit. After living there for 18 years growing up, I still have lots to see, especially on the outer islands...the Big Island being my particular favorite. This picture is of the South Beach on the Big Island, which btw happens to be the southern most point in the United States. Can you make out the trashbags..the ocean drops deep here off the volcano shelf, they sail out fishing lines with them right from the shore and deep sea fish.

Everyone's favorite fishie

You may have learned to say and spell Mississippi growing up, anyone growing up in Hawaii usually learns the state fish Humuhumunukunukuapua'a....means fish with a pig face. If your lucky you might catch a glimpse of one in its natural habitat if you go snorkeling at Haunama bay. Just remember look but don't touch.

Sunset on Sunset Beach, imagine that.

Sunset Beach

What's a trip home without seeing the sunset on Sunset Beach. There's a common misperception of visitors to Hawai'i that the North Shore is a particular beach.....but as the name implies its a shore and therefore encompasses many beaches. Sunset and Waimea Bay being only a couple of many.

My most recent trip to Georgia

That's the former USSR Republic of Georgia, not the state. The Army pitched in for an all expenses paid 3 month tour in Georgia to train their soldiers to go to Iraq. Turned out to be a great trip that I would repeat anytime.
Tbilisi, Capital of Georgia
3 day drive into Iraq

A year a year ago in Iraq

Can't say I saw anything to neat there. Lots and lots of desert, beat up cars, people that needed lots of help, and people who wanted to blow you up - and hard to tell the difference between those. This I would not like to revisit anytime soon if ever.

Belgium Spring 2004

Belgium was absolutely fantastic. So much to see in a small country that makes it possible to see it all in short day trips. Antwerp, Ghent, Brugge, Bastogne and of course Brussels. Can't wait to go again in June this year to Germany and Belgium. I'm not sure where these pictures are, but I'll put one up whenever I find them or when I get back from my next trip this summer.
Safari in mini vans

Sri Lanka and India August 2003

Sri Lanka is incredible, the people are happy and nice, I went there hating tea and came back loving it...definitely do a tea plantation tour if you get to go. And see Ghandi's tooth at the temple of the tooth in Kandy. You'll want to stick to the south side of the Island for the most part, the north being in conflict with the Tamil Tiger rebels. The food was not so great though, but maybe you'll have better luck that I did. We went to India afterwards, wish it were before...because Sri Lanka ended up being so much more interesting. Funny since the whole trip was really for India in the first place.
