Moulay Idriss
The Village of Moulay Idriss is named after the great grandson of the Prophet Mohammed and is one of the country's most important pilgrimage sites in Morocco. When I saw Moulay Idriss I was stunned how beautiful this village sat on one hill and surrounded by lush green mountains. Apart from walking around the town the main attraction is the Mausoleum of Moulay Idriss but non-Muslims can not visit any Mosque or shrines and also not allowed to stay over night.

I based myself in Meknes and hired a taxi for a day to visit Moulay Idriss and the ruins of Volubilis it was the easiest way to get there. If you ever visit nearby Fes then add an extra day to take in these places which are well worth it and a must see.
