Travel Notes from Edinburgh

Nice Place, Was Expecting a Great Place

View of The Castle in a Rainy Day
I know I'm going to disappoint some Edinburgh-lovers with my story, but I was a little disappointed from my visit to Edinburgh. I guess, listening to the feedback of many othe people and knowing the fame of the city itself, I had set up such a high expectations on what I would find and see that I ended up with the frustration of not finding what I had expected.

I have to admit that the conditions of my travel weren't appropriate for a pleasant visit: I was on a day trip from Newcastle with only few hours to spend in town, no overnighting, the weather was rainy and cold, and moreover I was travelling with a non-omogeneous group of people with different background, interests and expectations. By the way I still feel I would have expected more.

Yes, I know, the Castle and the Old Town are nice, the Georgian and Victorian architecture is nice, the shopping area around Princes Street is also nice, but I think what I missed is a big WOW. Everything was nice enough but nothing that would impress me. Unfortunaly I could not test the nightlife, supposedly lively and vibrant, that I understand is special in Edinburgh.

I will definetely come back to Edinburgh, looking up for what I didn't find this time.

Party Till You Drop

I know social scene and nightlife is big in Edinburgh (and you can drink and party till the wee hours because of city liberal licensing policy). Unfortunaly, I just had chance for a scotch and a beer at one of the many pubs in town.

On that regard, can anybody explain me why beer, and not limited to Edinburgh but in UK in general, is served warm?
