Getting TO/AROUND: The Madrid Metro is amazingly safe, fun, on time, clean and efficient. It is a model other cities should use when making subway systems. I used it for two months and it can get you anyway you need to go in the city. Without the metro travel around Madrid would have been terrible. Taxis are unreliable and tend not to pick up tourists, and walking would comsume your days. Metros also run very very late at night and very early in the morning. Closing at 3 am and opening at 6 am. There were many nights when I had to stay up until 6 am so I could get a ride home. Use the metro whenever possible, like I said it is a model subway system. It is a part of Madrid to take advantage of and use for all that it is worth.
