Cristo-Rei

The Sanctuary of Christ the King (Portuguese: Cristo-Rei) monument was built on the left-bank of the Tagus river, facing Lisbon.
It is situated in the city of Almada.
We went there by ferry boat across Tagus river (Rio Tejo) and then with local bus to city of Almada where monument is.

Cristo-Rei monument

View from the top of the monument. Very fast lift takes you to the top where souvenir shop and viewpoint are. Beautiful view on Lisbon and Tagus river.
Statue of Christ the Redeemer was designed by sculptor Francisco Franco de Sousa and it is 28 m (92 ft) tall.
It looks just like the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I understand that it was inspired by statue in Brazil that was built 25 years (or little more) before this one.

Almada from the monument

At the base of the statue is an observation deck (altitude: 82 m / 209 ft) providing panoramic views of the city of Almada and also of Lisbon, the Tagus River and of the 25 de Abril Bridge.
