Johor Bahru or JB as it is more known among the locals is the gate to enter and exit Singapore from Malaysia by land. History combines these two lands together which has now become two different countries. This capital of Johor is considered as one of the most influential Malay states in the country. The ruling political party was formed in this state by a Johorean and even the last Sultan of Malacca fled to the South here in Johor.
When one mentions about Johor, there are many synonyms or reflections upon this state. One would be the people (culture, language and history), then comes the food, the cities, religion and of course the Royal family (Too many stories / news). Haha.... On a serious note, Johor Bahru was formerly known as Tanjung Puteri until 1866. It is also the Royal city for the Johor state - you might see Sultan of Johor or the Crowned Prince and any of his other children drving around the city. It became a city in 1994.
There are many places in the city to visit as they've very interesting and worth taking pictures for. Great buildings from the British Empire and the local government. New malls, hotels, restaurants are working their way into making Johor Bahru a modern city. It sure is developing well and awaiting your arrival. :-)
I will post more pictures the next time I go down South. |

SLLiew Mon Oct 22, 2007 10:42 UTC Just checking your JB page. I was taken for a ride by the taxi from the Causeway to my hotel, RM10 when I know it is about RM5 by meter. But rather not argue as I wanted to get into air cond room fast. Penang taxi - no comment :) |
