The Big F**kin' Apple

Midtown Manhattan from the Brooklyn Bridge

Home is where you make it

We never imagined ourselves living in New York City 8 years ago. Where we are from (San Antonio, Texas, USA), New York City is considered a crowded, dangerous and unfriendly place. However, people from all around the world move here every day for a better life. Why didn't we imagine it? I guess because even in its home country, whether it's small town USA or a big city USA, it's misconceived as a dangerous place.

This is a picture taken from the Brooklyn Bridge facing Manhattan from the Dumbo area in Brooklyn. It still holds a few original eateries, great shopping, and obviously has some beautiful views.

If you come to NYC, take a walk across the Brooklyn Bridge before you leave.
Verrazano-Narrows Bridge park, Brooklyn

New York City is beautiful, even at it's coldest

New York City can definitely get cold in the winter. This is a picture taken at the park near the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge near Bensonhurst and Bath Beach, Brooklyn.

The neighborhood is mostly Italian, Russian, and Chinese. However, there is a small population of Pakistani, Turkish and Hasidic here as well.

When in this part of the city, be sure to stop by Il Colliseo (18th ave. & 77th st.). They have great home style Italian food! Also, consider trying some good Polish at Gaspoda (86th st. & 18th ave.), Turkish at Kismet (86th st. & Bay Pkwy.), homemade ravioli's at Queen Anne Pasta Company (18th ave. & 72nd st.), a Russian Saturday night at Ermitage (18th ave. & E. 2nd st.) and various authentic Chinese bakeries and restaurants at (86 st. and Bay Pkwy. area).

If you need to eat Kosher, just cruise down 18th ave. between 60th st. and Ocean Pkwy. This neighborhood is called Borough Park and it's the largest Hasidic population in the country. You can get Kosher BBQ at Dougies (18th ave. & e. 2nd st.), Kosher Chinese (18th ave. & E. 2nd st.), Mendelson's Pizza (18th ave. & 47th st.) and The Chocolatier (18th ave. & 45th st.) with dairy and non-dairy chocolates.
Coney Island on a hot friggin' day!

New York City is also beautiful at it's hottest

New York City can definitely get hot in the summer. This is a picture taken at Coney Island, Brooklyn on a hot summer day. Coney Island is home to Nathan's Hot Dogs, The Coney Island Freak Show and I think, the oldest roller coaster in the country (The Cyclone). Also, along the boardwalk, there are many clam bars with delicious fresh clams on the half shell or fried clam strips. There's a new baseball park and team called the Cyclones. I think the Cyclones are an attempt to sort of replace the loss of the Dodgers who were traded to L.A. in the 1950's.

This neighborhood hosts some quaint uniques like the first pizza restaurant in the country, Totonno's, and of course, Nathan's Hot Dogs. Nathan's is famous for it's annual hot dog eating contest.

Coney Island also host's an impressive, free fireworks show every Friday night at 9:00pm during the summer months.

This is definitely a summer hot spot for locals and tourists alike. And go as soon as possible- a developer has recently purchased the property and this may be the last summer to enjoy Coney Isalnd in its full glory.
Barber in downtown Manhattan

New York City is full of contradictions

Do you see a contradiction in this picture?

This is definitely one of our favorite pictures. It was taken in downtown Manhattan near City Hall close to where the old World Trade Centers used to be.

Downtown Manhattan is home to South Street Seaport, Wall Street, Staten Island Ferry, Statue of Liberty Monument, Battery Park, The Merril Lynch Bull and the Brooklyn Bridge.
