This is a simple rule of advice that I was so glad I read in my traveling partner, Rick Steves, book about Paris. There are people who gather around highly populated tourist sites. Their goal is to find a friendly tourist to stop for a second, give them a finger, and allow them to show you how they make bracelets out of yarn. They'll tie one end to your finger, make the bracelet in a matter of seconds and then charge you for the bracelet. They have you attached to them via the bracelet and they will be very aggresive about you paying them and, because they travel in packs, can be very intimidating for a tourist. I ran into these characters, kept walking, told them no and they quickly moved onto the next tourists. They weren't aggresive after I told them no and they just left me alone. Word of advice - keep walking and say 'NO' like you mean it... GP
