Malta was never my favourite destination as I used to deal with complaints from customers who had travelled there on holiday. |
| Bugibba Holiday Complex (BHC) |
| | A surprise for my parents! February 2006 My parents seemed to love it, so last year we booked a surprise trip to stay a few nights at the same hotel as them - the Bugibba Holiday Complex.
The hotel was okay, basic but clean with plenty of facilities including an indoor swimming pool and a decent bar/pub. There is a no smoking policy in force now in Malta so my hubby had to go outside anytime he wanted a cigarette.
Surprisingly enough, very few of the resort hotels are situated along the seafront. They all seem to be 2 or 3 streets back from the road that runs along the sea.
The weather wasn't bad but not as pleasant as the weather we left behind in Cyprus. |
Back again - Feb 2007 My Dad was taken ill in November 2006, which is usually when my parents come to visit us in Cyprus. So, this time we are planning another visit that they are aware of.
The hotel they usually stay in is closed for refurbishment so this time we are all staying at the Topaz Hotel - again, in Bugibba.
I will post my findings as soon as we return.
Well, we're back home again in sunny Cyprus (although not too sunny just now)!
The Topaz Hotel was fine. Basic, clean accommodation. TV remote can be rented for Lm5, which is refundable. For this, you get Sky News and MBC2 (movie channel). The rest of the tv programmes are either in Maltese or Italian plus the hotel shows it's own movies too on channel 1 (copy DVD's going off the quality of the picture). The food was ok although the restaurant is totally chaotic. Seating too close to the serving areas and too many tables in the restaurant. We would prefer to go B&B if we went again. Entertainment each evening from 8.30pm in the Peacock Lounge plus there is another "pub" too with tv, showing football etc as requested. Indoor pool looked okay too!
Other than that - I have to say that I've now come to a conclusion that I do NOT like Bugibba. Qwra and Sliema seem to be nicer places and situated around the waters edge. Bugibba just seems to be a mess of scruffy backstreets and I still cannot get past whether the resort needs knocking down or finishing off.....
The people are friendly and it is for this reason that my parents keep going back there.
For food & drink - it's pretty cheap. Cheaper than Cyprus. Lm1 works out at CyŁ1.40 | | | Taken in Sliema - Feb 2007 |

| Pros: | "Cheap place, friendly people." | | Cons: | "Scruffy streets with dog poo everywhere - or so it seemed." | | In A Nutshell: | "Apparently, you either love it or hate it. My suggestion - knock it down and start again..." |
