"Cyprus4Holidays - but now, it's where we live!" cyprus4holidays's Profile
Me and my husband both came to live in Cyprus in March 2004. We moved from a small town in the North West of England, close to Manchester. We were both in our 40's & decided it was the right time for us to make the move.
We rented a 3 bedroom bungalow in Jan 2004, arranged for some of our furniture from UK to be shipped to Cyprus and on March 3rd, we flew out to Paphos. Our 2 cats (Tilly & Bart) and our dog, Indiana all arrived in Larnaca - from Heathrow airport.
We live in Ypsonas, a suburb of Limassol although it was once a small village - it is growing quite quickly. It's approx 10 to 15 minutes from the town centre & tourist area of Limassol.
My husband builds wooden fencing & pergolas and between us, we run a holiday home management company.
In his spare time, Clement buys & sells stamps or other Cypriot memorabilia.
We love our new life and have no regrets on leaving the UK. Our friends come to stay with us and we get to spend quality time with them, taking pleasure in showing them our latest findings on our island.
We have visited Cyprus for holidays for many years and it was a longtime dream to eventually live here.
In May 2007 we have a holiday planned to visit Egypt again. We will fly from Larnaca to Cairo, then on to Aswan - staying 4 nights in Aswan. We will use Egyptair for all of our flights from & to Cyprus. After checking out in Aswan we will take a 3 night cruise down the River Nile, between Aswan & Luxor plus a further 2 nights in Luxor before we check out & take the overnight sleeper train to Cairo.
We plan to spend the remainder of the day sightseeing in Cairo with 2 of our close friends from Cyprus (Barry & Vera). Then, later in the afternoon we head off back to the airport for our flight back to our sunshine island, Cyprus.
I used to work for one of the 3 largest Tour Operators in UK before we came to live in Cyprus & so was lucky to enjoy lots of holidays.
Our favourite places are: Cyprus, Egypt & Tunisia. We also love Greece & India.
My parents visit Malta every year as well as coming to visit us in Cyprus. We are very lucky that we can take a short flight from Larnaca to Luqa airport and spend a few days with them every winter. Our last visit was to Bugibba, Malta in Feb 2207 for a few days to visit my parents whilst they were on holiday.
We are lucky that we get to use Emirates for our flights from Larnaca to Malta - very nice!
Places we have visited more than once: Cyprus, Egypt, Tunisia, Malta, Lebanon & Benidorm.
Places we would like to visit again: Rhodes, Crete, Corfu, Bulgaria, Austria & Syria. Plus too many others to list...
Probably most of the Middle East - first on the list is Petra followed by Dubai & Israel.
We will most certainly go back to Egypt as that is our 2nd most favourite holiday destination.
We did the Golden Triangle tour in India a few years ago and took in sights such as the Red Fort, Delhi, Agra Fort, Palace of the Winds, Taj Mahal & the Amber Fort (visit by elephant). We would like to go further south the next time we visit.
Clubbers paradise - book accommodation in Ayia Napa. "The Square" gets buzzing around 2am and closes around 6am when everyone goes back to their hotel/apartment and jumps in the swimming pool.
Families - book for Protaras, Paralimni (East coast) or Paphos (West coast). Nice resorts with plenty of local restaurants.
Want to get out and visit the island? - then Limassol is best as it is in the centre of the island and easily accessible from either airport.
Driving is on the left - same as in UK. Road signs are similar to those in UK. English is widely spoken in the main resorts with the exception of some of the more inland villages.
Winter holiday - you can ski on Mount Olympus on Troodos mountains in from middle of January as a rule and 20 minutes later you can be sunning yourself by the swimming pool back at your hotel.
Archeologist/Historians - visit Curium (near Episkopi) to see the ampitheatre and very large selection of Roman ruins. Some also in Paphos (visit the House of Dionysos for mosaics).
My stepson, Thomas - lives with his mum, stepdad, baby brother & sister in UK. His stepdad has just take a relocation package with BAE systems and they flew out from Manchester to Sydney via Dubai & Singapore on Thursday 26th April.
Tom may have to resit his 2nd year of A levels in Oz or he may be able to sit his exams there in one of the centres so he can take the exam at the same time as his UK fellow students. For that part, we will have to see what the outcome is....
If he chooses to stay in Oz rather than go back to UK to take up his University degree in Egyptian Archeology, it may be that we will have to fly to Sydney - possibly next year sometime.
I've had a look at flights and it's definitely cheaper for us to fly from Larnaca via Dubai & Bankok with Emirates as other airlines seem to want to send us back to UK before flying to Sydney.
The other option - we may meet up with him in India somewhere as it's probably a "middle distance" for us all.
