The view from the plane as it descended upon Mariscal Sucres Airport in Quito is incredible! You can observe the city completely surrounded by mountains and volcanoes.
Once on the ground the constract of the sky scrapers and the older edifices with red roofs and the many parks and plazas with amazing amounts of flowers is an explosion of color.
The traffic is heavy; it rivals NYC at rush hour... The amount of pedestrians, the number of street vendors as well as outdoor performers, (both vendors and performers work in the middle of the street, usually at intersection or traffic lights) are also high.. Driving is not an easy task here!
The huge mega stores also diverge from the indigineous street vendors who sell everything and anything from seasonal fruits to small kitchen appliances... Their colorful garments also stand out. There are tons of fast food places like McDonalds, Pizza Hut, Dominos, etc... next to typical restaurants.

The many street vendors offer a great variety of things to sell. I stopped for fresh fruits... Delicious!!!
