The Castle

One cant come into the village of Framlingham without seeing its centerpiece, the castle! It has been around since the 1000's, first as a motte and bailey and then as stone. It has been everything from a fort to a castle and then a poor house. The inside is pretty much gone but the outer walls are still there. There is a museum and you can walk the ramparts. When I visit my family, I like to walk to the castle alone and walk the ramparts. Its very peaceful looking out over the ramparts onto the mere, imaging this place when Mary was here with all her supporters camped outside and being told she would be the next Queen when her brother Edward died. So much history is here!

Walking through town

Just strolling through the village in Fram is enjoyable. There is a market in the center of town 2 days per week and lovely little shops. The church is a wonderful place to visit as well. One of King Henry VIII's illegimate children is buried here (of course, a Fitz Roy) as well as Thomas Howard, 3rd Duke of Norfolk.
