I got totally stuck in Zamami. Met a bunch of cool Japanese and the beach was my Japanese school. The guys working on the beach were my teachers, couldn`t imagine a better setting for a school...
Akabana is a small hostel on Zamami and certainly the most fun place to stay at. The staff and owner are up for a lot of party (but also make sure that you get up early in the morning...) and there are a lot of barbecues and other parties going on. Always lots of people around, lots of fun. And if you speak some Japanese it`s even more fun.
Zamami is a great spot for whale watching early in the year. Kind of strange in a country that is known for slaughtering whales as well... Up on the mountain in Zamami there are some specific watching spots. Was not there in February, but still a good view
- Pros:friendly, fun people, swimming with seaturtles, parties, sun, great scuba diving, quiet
- Cons:small and not enormous amounts of stuff to do
