I moved to Birmingham in August 2005 for my current job. Having previously lived in Manchester I can say that it is a much safer city. The conurbation itself is split in to multiple areas such as Sandwell, West Bromwich and Wolverhampton. Each mantains itself as a seperate entity meaning that Birmingham is really a group of different cities with no real borders.
