First stop Koblenz

I was blessed to spend quite a few days in the general area of Land Rheinland-Pfalz and thanks to the kindness of VTers christine.j and Trekki (Ingrdi) it was a mind blowing experience indeed.

I was based firstly in Koblenz for two days at which time, I was reunited with Christine and her husband Martin who had shown me in and around the Heidelberg area back in 2009. This time they came to Koblenz to see me and we spent the most marvellous time exploring the wonders of Marksburg Castle.

A short Rhine cruise

I met up with a friend from home the night before I left Koblenz and we both boarded the KD ferry the next morning bound for Sankt Goarshausen where we met up with Trekki (Ingrid) who was standing on the dock merrily waving an Australian flag. It was so good to meet up with her in person after so many months and even years corresponding on VT.

We stopped in Sankt Goarshausen or nearby, I'm not quite sure, for a quick coffee before heading off to fulfil a long time dream of mine which was to visit the wonderful monastery at Eberbach.

Along the way we passed through a pretty little town which was home to a wonderful church the name of which sadly, I didn't write down or remember.

Four days exploring the Palatinate

That night we checked into the fantastic Hotel Pension Im Malerwinkel in Bacharach which you can read all about on my Bacharach page. My friend from home had to leave us early the next morning so it was just Ingrid and me and as much of the Palatinate as we could scrunch into four lovely days.

I think the KD ferry trip along the Rhine was one of the best. Super strudel, one of my favorites!

Wow! You saw some wonderful places. Idar-Oberstein looks great to me, also the hermitage, what an interesting place that sounds. Those gemstones are beautiful with the light behind them. Nice page Kate!

I can't remember the last time I saw a St. Bernard dog in Australia.
The shoe museum is a really unusual one.
