I lived in Montreal for 2 years, from 1987 to 1989. At that time I could not speak a single English word. My second language is French, so I didn't have to use English in Montreal.

However, I knew English was important and I started studying it. In the morning I went to school and in the evening I worked in a restaurant "Les Beaux Jeudis". In Portugal I graduated from a cooking school and at that time I used to enjoy working in kitchens and hotels (now I prefer the office's air con).

My deepest impression of Montreal is its cosmopolitan world. I had lots of pictures taken but when I left Canada I did not bring them, I thought I would return later. A few years had past and when I tried to recover my photos of Canada it was too late, the last place where I had been and I used to live was no longer the Vancouver Gastown Hotel.

I visited many cities in Canada and Montreal and Quebec were the best, as a Portuguese, Montreal and Quebec are much more closer to my culture than any other cities in the rest of Canada.

Montreal and Quebec are colourful cities full of culture, contrary to almost the rest of the country. Canada is a young country, possesses a beautiful nature but is quite boring and has a rough weather.
