The Addo Elephant Park is one of the National Parks of South Africa. It was initially proclaimed in 1913 to secure the survival of the elephants of this area. These elephants are a bit smaller than their family members in the rest of Africa and South Africa. As I grew up in Port Elizabeth, we often visited the Park on a Sunday, just as s daytrip. The Park has undergone major changes in the recent years, all very positive. It is much bigger now, and many new animal species have been introduced, including predators (lion, leopard etc). The Zuurberg area, and also a coastal area is now part of the Park. I would recommend staying overnight, as the Park has very good accommodation available. The Park is now even more accessible if you travel from PE on the N2 (Grahamstown). There is a new part of he Park and a new gate. It is only about 40km from PE. This entrance is also less busy than the main gate. |

Bwana_Brown Sat Oct 18, 2008 14:54 UTC Addo Elephant National Park looks like a fun place to explore! My wife and I visited South Africa and Kruger NP in 1995 and it is still our all-time best trip! One of these days, we will be back for more. | Wafro Wed May 28, 2008 19:50 UTC These are my favorite 4 - feet's. So Addo is the place to be. | Behi Tue Apr 15, 2008 21:58 UTC Close Encounters of the Third Kind with Elephants! GREAT Pic & tips | SLLiew Sun Jan 20, 2008 04:28 UTC Excellent page. Must be wonderful to see the elephants so close. In the Malaysian jungles, it is hard to see the elephants but plenty of evidence of what left behind on the ground. Cheers :) |
