Chennai (Madras) Travel Guide: 433 reviews and 867 photos
Most travel guides don’t rate Chennai very highly as a tourist destination. I enjoyed the few days I spent here very much.
Many negative things could be said about the city – the poverty, it is very stretched out, the heat etc.
There are also many positives, like the temples, friendly people, very good food etc.
Arriving at the airport is much less chaotic than most other I used before (eg Mumbai, Delhi and Cochin).
The city is very sprawling, which makes it a bit more difficult to travel in. Chennai does not seem to have a central area, which could be called the heart of the city, but it rather feels like several small towns, linked to one another.
I stayed in Egmore, and did find it to be quite centrally located, easy to operate from.
Poverty is quite prevalent, but I did find that there were less begging compared to a city like Mumbai.
The South Indian food is something very special, and really worth trying as much as possible.

You have a pretty neat Chennai page here! I hope to build mine of the days.
I will not have time to visit Chennai when I visit India for the first time later this year, but it looks like an interesting city to spend a few days in.
I too enjoyed Spencer's Mall, as you say, you can get ALL your gift shopping done here, as it has everything in one place, and lots of fast-food eating places, too.
A wonderful VT page about an old Indian city. Here people are really crazy about movies. In TN state most of the top politicians were once movie stars.
