Things To Do: Royal Botanical Gardens
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • These gardens cover a huge area. Each section has an entrance way where they accept a $1 donation (exact fee) to let you in to walk the trails. Overall there are 900 hectares of land.

General admission to the central section is $8 plus a parking fee of $5. They give you a stub that lets you back in for the day in case you need to leave and want to return. This also is your ticket to get on the shuttle bus that runs among the various park areas.

The central section (visitor welcome, Larking garden, Hendrie park) takes an hour in itself to tour because there are so many flowering exhibits. The gift store is attached to the central area and they also sell film in case you run out (like we did). You need to arrange your time so that you are ready for the shuttle bus when it makes one of its hourly rounds.
Each of the other trails takes at least a half hour, if not more. We did not get to see them all because of a time crunch. You should plan three hours of time and 3-4 rolls of film if you are an avid photographer.

Be sure to wear comfortable shoes. The area is mostly handicap accessible but there are a lot of paved trails and walking to do.

Hockey Hall of Fame: Canada's contribution to world sports
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • The Hockey Hall of Fame is as interesting to hockey fans as the Football Hall of Fame in Canton, OH, USA is to football fans. It is an enduring tribute to the sportsmen who play the game and the great ones who are remembered in pictures and sculptures and plaques inside.

The price was about $15 for the day pass. The main gallery has videos and electronic games where you can participate in simulated playoff action. There are halls and halls of pictures and plaques commemorating every great player and event in the games long history.
There is the Stanley Cup; the hockey grail.
Every team has a small nook where its best players and achievements are catalogued.
There is a rink where you can imagine yourself as part of one of the winning teams.

There is the obligatory gift shop where you can get all kinds of hockey stuff. We got our souvenier coffee mug to add to the home collection.

This place takes about an hour to cover adequately. When it is busy (like on the weekends), you may have to wait in line to see some of the sections or try some of the electronics.
