VB is a huge city with over 450000 people.
It has miles of beaches (and some of them are open to the public); longest pleasure beach in the world.

The history of this area dates back to the early 1600's and by 1650 had been divided into what is today Portsmouth, Norfolk, Chesapeake and Virginia Beach. In the 1800's, VB began its tradition as a resort area for those who had the resources to live and vacation here.
Today the city is invisibly divided into 15 or more localities (eg. Blackwater, Pembroke, Shadowlawn just to name a few).
