OSWEGO is Indian for "born here" and the Indians used the land since the last mini-iceage (about 7000 BC). French, British and Dutch fought with and against each other (and the Indians) for control of this access to Lake Ontario. Fort Ontario is a lasting reminder of those struggles.

Today the city is about 20000 in size living in about 7000 households.
It boasts (and rightly so) a beautiful waterfront, several well-kept parks and a clean urban center.
