The Manitou Beach area has about 20 residences right on the Lake Ontario lakefront and another 50-60 homes on route 261 (Manitou Beach Road) and nearby secondary roads near the lake and Salmon Creek/Braddock Bay.
Since the distant past, it has been a very upscale resort area for Rochesterians in the hot summers and is not an upscale residential area.

Manitou Beach Hotel (1930)

The Manitou Beach Hotel was a favorite Rochester resort area until the 1960s. Trolley cars came from the city out to Manitou Beach on the weekends to drop off visitors who could afford the price of a room ($2.50 in 1920)
