We chose Trieste for a couple day stay between business in Germany and Venice. Hoping for a pretty seaside town, I was disappointed by the constant noise, crowds, fumes, and dust. I wouldn't go back to spend time there but it was a good starting point for daytrips elsewhere. It wasn't all bad by any means. Manuela, who ran the B&B we stayed in, was a real sweetie and she sent us to terrific restaurants off the beaten tourist path. We had the 2nd floor of her house including a stocked kitchen and large, sunny balcony. We met hostelers at the bus station and discovered they paid more than we did for lodging. Sometimes it is better to be lucky than smart, I guess. |
