Porto Santo is known as "the Golden Island". There are two possible explanations. <p>1. Comparing with the neighboring island of Madeira, the climate is much drier, so its landscape looks less green and more "golden". <p>2. Another difference with Madeira is that this island has sand (golden) beaches. |
