TRIER | Me, at the Electoral Palace |
The main reason why we went to Trier this time is to find my “Muse”. I have been having some writer’s block and laziness took over my entire mind and body…that’s very unlikely of me. At this time of year, my son and I should be having fun walking the snowy “markas” in the Scandinavia, throwing snowballs at each other and drinking hot soup in a forest hut meant for walkers like us. But no…we’re stuck up at home, curled up in bed, staying up in our pjs and gazing at the beautiful world outside behind the floor to the ceiling glass windows that surround us. |

| | Get up and go! My laziness disappointed my muse and left me without notice. Now, I do nothing but bore myself with empty daydreams and anticipated nightmares. If I know my muse better, I would say that she’s out there, in the cold, on top of a steep mountain, enjoying the wintry beauty of nature, waving her magic wand and turning everything into snow. But there are no steep mountains about---just hills and plains. My lazy bones refuse to travel outside the 600 kilometer radius from where I live. Ay! |
| | And the journey starts... We started our jouney by beating the two-minute deadline from the train station entrance until the perron of our local station. It was a photo-finish situation between the train staff’s “to go” whistle against setting my last foot into the train’s door. ‘dunno who won, but we finally made it. The 30-minute waiting time for our next train from Brussels to Luxembourg was just enough to relieve myself at the WC and to buy a breakfast of warmtoasted ham sandwhich from Subway and hot hot coffee to go along with it. Now, we’re ready for another 3 hours of bun-warming activity at the seat of the small compartment of our train.
Our five-hour journey came to an end when we finally arrived at the Trier main train station. With the help of our friends at VT, we were able to manage our transport inside Trier with ease. (I used to drive a lot in Trier, but this time, we decided to go with trains and busses. It is more relaxing and I can use a lot of sleep in those long hours of journey.)
Since our hotel, Hotel Aulman is located just on the sidestreet of the main shopping area, shopping was inevitable. There were numerous stores, big and large to choose from. The area is loaded with food stalls and restaurants and it was difficult to choose from any of them. We ended our day by dining at a pasta restaurant called Pasta-Pasta. Looking from outside, it really looked modern and classy inside. It was! except for the price of foods and wines that they were serving. We took two small orders of pasta---penne in tomato sauce for my son and spaghetti with mushroom sauce for me and two small cokes. I paid just about €12. That’s a bargain.
All is well that ends well. Back at the hotel, the german tv channels entertained us until we both fell asleep---
The following day started up with a hearty breakfast at our hotel. Good choices of cold cuts and cheeses. Warm crisp breads, spreads and yoghurt…etc.etc. Then, our culture seeking began. No time for dilly-dallying. No shopping in mind (it’s Sunday!), just museums and relevant sights. Despite the cold weather, we were surprised to see a lot of tourists with their videos and cameras everywhere. Come to think of it, we all seemed to have taken pictures of each other, not just the sights! |
