What an amazing place Barcelona certainly lived up to my expectations, a vibrant and unique city which is just as appealing to the eye. We stayed in the Gothic Quarter in Hotel Regencia Colón (Sagristans, 13-17) thanks to some excellent VT tips. In my opinion this is the perfect district to be located in, close to the tourist bus stops, the metro, buses etc
My guide on the city will be based on our stay here and the things we saw in and around the Gothic Quarter |
| | Some of the sites There is a rich cultural heritage within the city and some of the key thing we saw was the Ramblas, Sagrada Familia, the cathedral, Barceloneta, the zoo, the aquarium.... and so many others.
The transportation within the city is fantastic and so punctual- one thing to note is the increased prices on taxi fares to and from the airport, especially if you have extra luggage! |
| | Background History During the industrial revolution and the period of cultural renaissance, the city grew to its maximum splendor, which continues to gexpand today. The literary rebirth of the Catalan language came in unison and the movement of modernism in which artists and architects made the city renowned worldwide for their works. The most well-known and loved artist during this period was Antoni Gaudí, who designed remarkable, modernist works, such as the Sagrada Familia, La Pedrera or Milà House, the Batlló House and the Parc Güell. All of which are covered on the main tourist bus routes and are equally impressive. |
