Wilmington Travel Guide: 231 reviews and 402 photos

One of the best parts about living in central North Carolina is having easy access to its wonderful beaches and mountains. Wilmington is a unique coastal town because of its location of the Cape Fear River, its Historic Downtown, and being home to the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.

My family always traveled to Oak Island during the summers, and Wilmington is about a half hour drive from it. Now I have another reason to visit the town, as it is only two hours away and one of my best friends from middle and high school lives there.

Walking along the riverfront is one of the best ways to take in downtown. With the Cotton Exchange and many restaurants, you can spend all of your time in Wilmington on a small strip of land. The beaches are so popular during the summer that it's hard to find parking places, so nearby Wrightsville Beach is probably the best place to spend time at the ocean - although it's getting increasingly popular as well.
