Packing Lists: Very dry
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]

  • Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: A raincoat

Just kidding, it never rains in Lima. :) But even in the summer, it does get a little chilly when the sun goes down, so bring at least a light jacket. During the day in the summer, it is very dry and warm.

Packing Lists: Sunscreen is expensive at the beach
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]

  • Toiletries & Medical Supplies: If you are going to the beach, you will probably want to use sunscreen and it is much cheaper to buy inland than near the beach. They sell SPF up to 100, which we thought was kind of silly, but once we got on the beach and realized how hot it could get, it made a little more sense. I don't think it increases that much in effectiveness over 50, but it might make you feel better.

Luis didn't use any (he didn't burn but he peeled), and I used 15 and for the most part was fine, only getting burned where I missed a spot. Geraldine, a lighter-skinned Peruvian, uses 30-45.

    Packing Lists: Cash
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]

  • Miscellaneous: This is probably a general tip for most cities you'll travel in, but be sure you bring cash. Traveler's checks are of course safer, but you don't want to rely on them because the lines at the bank are so long. You can easily spend an hour of your afternoon waiting in line and then waiting for you bank to approve. Cash can be exchanged at lots of booths, but check around to get the best exchange rate.
