Idaho Springs,Colorado, [elevation 7540 ft., population 1800] was my birthplace 6 April 1942 at 1002 Colorado Blvd; I now live in Carlsbad, California after a 32-year career in the US Navy as an ophthalmologist.
I attended grade school (first kindergarten class in Idaho Springs), high school and graduated in Class of 1960 (first class to graduate from the consolidated Clear Creek County High School). US I-70 routes thru town and brings thousands of tourists year-round and skiers in the winter to the Rockies west of Denver. There are some interesting sites in Idaho Springs and in Central City/Blackhawk (9 miles north on CR279, the "OH MY GOD ROAD"). Also, Georgetown, 11 miles west of Idaho Springs, has some attractions: historic Georgetown Loop Railroad to Silver Plume, formerly known as Devil's Gate Viaduct/High Bridge (which was rebuilt in the 1980's at a cost of $1 million+); Hamill House and Hotel de Paris Museums.
