Kastamonu is a small, cute Blacksea city. You may see many old houses, mosques here. You may ski at Ilgaz mountain. Atatürk's hat revolution started in this city.(23 august 1925) At 1919, first woman meeting was here.
Kastamonu is a very historical city. 18th century BC- Hittites, 13th BC-Phrygians, 7th century BC-Lydians. -Macedonians- Pontus kingdom in 1st century BC- The Roman Empire -Seljuk dynasty 11th century AD, followed by the Danishmends, the Byzantines during the crusades, Çobanoðlu and Candaroglu beyliks. The Ottoman sultan Beyazid I conquered the province in 1392 however, following his capture and death in Battle of Ankara, the area was granted back to the Candaroglu by the Mongol Timur Lenk. Ottoman sultan Mehmed II incorporated the region back to the empire in 1461. The Danishmend dynasty was a Turcoman dynasty ruling in eastern Anatolia in the 11th and 12th centuries...
This city has many Külliyes. (Islamic Ottoman social komplex) because of many saints.
