For tourists there is not much things to see in Ankara. First of all, I advice to see castle area. The oldest parts of the city surround the Castle. The Alaaddin Mosque found inside its walls is still one of the best examples of Selcuk art and wood craftsmanship, in spite of the fact that it was restored by the Ottomans. The area old Turkish houses, several art galleries and fine restaurants for traditional Turkish cuisine.
The Museum of Anatolian Civilizations is close the castle door It contains priceless artifacts belonging to the Paleolithic and Neolithic eras as well as the Hatti, Hittite, Phrygian, Urartu and Roman civilizations.
I also advice to see Anitkabir museum. The mouselum of our biggesst leader Atatürk. You may see many thing about our history too...
Also you may see all Ankara from Atakule tower.
You may visit first and second national parliment building at Ulus. (We call as a "eski meclis")
Ethnographical museum is worth to see too. It is close to Ulus.
Between them you may rest at "Genclik parki".
For feeling city life you must walk around the Kizilay centre. But histhorical things are around the old center Ulus. At night you may walk at Konur sokak, you may drink beer at Sakarya street etc. (At Kizilay)

I visited Ankara some years ago when my parents were stationed there. View from Ataturk mausoleum was excellent. The sense of history was wonderful. I loved the Anatolian Civilisations museum as well. Best of all was the wonderful hospitality of the Turks.
regards from Maryland.val
The castle, the museum and Ataturk's resting place must be a fantastic place to visit and enjoy the history. We see a lot of this city on TV, and hope to get there one day. YOu have presented this wonderful city very well.
Hm, a lot to see. I hope to visit the old city, the senegül hamami, Atatürk Mausoleum and Anatolian Museum in one day. Thanks for your travel guide about Ankara. Thank you for the nice comment.
The Anatolian civilisations Museum must be a wonderful one; Ankara looks very interesting from an insider’s eye; I had a nice virtual visit, Nur.
Excellent page about wonderful Turkish capital, which brings a lot of memories. I don't agree with you Nur that there is not much things to see in Ankara! Yes, I didn't attend the Antikabir Museum (and many other museums) because of lack of time...
evet! those beans were tasty! ;)
Very brief but interesting and useful tips. Thanks for sharing.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY FROM IRAN!!!!
