Chao Phraya River: Dinner Cruise
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • How can one miss a boat ride on the famous Chao Pharya river in Bangkok?

That's what I did the first time I went to Bangkok. You can easily get the boat operators from the internet or from your hotel.

The last time I went was about 500baht per pax including transfers to and from hotel and a dinner on board the boat and that was 7 years back. So I guessed the price must be different now.

Dinner was pretty good and traditional thai musicians are on board to keep you entertained.

A stop was also made along near one of the temples where we can view the temple up close and personal.

Chatuchak Weekend Market: Join in the crowd
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • The weekend market that one must never missed in Bangkok. It spans across several football fields and you can bargain for anything and everything under the sun.

The place is divided into sections so it's good if you can search for a map of the place online before going. There are maps available there too but it's really not visible enough.

There are clothes, shoes, pets, food, antiques, crafts on sale. If you fancy a big item and unable to pack them in your luggage, there are TNT, Fedex, DHL etc available too.

Toilets are extremely crowded and dirty so if possible, do not go to one there.

Go there early to beat the crowd and sun.

    Have fun bargaining.

Grand Palace / Wat Phra Kaew: The Grand Palace
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • I have been to the grand palace a few times mainly because if I was there with someone who is a first time visitor to Bangkok, it seemed to be the inevitable place to go.

The first time I went there, I remembered the emerald buddhas were on exhibition. It showcased the buddhas in different clothing according to the seasons and that was really interesting. There was also an exhibition on the ancient clothings and weapons used.

When I was there a few years later, I couldn't find where the buddhas are anymore.

If you are interested in ancient Siam, there are paintings along the walls that depict history. The last time I went there, they were restoring the paintings on the walls.

    Patpong: Patpong...Ping Pong
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • Patpong is known as the red light district in Bangkok but it has toned down since.

It's also the place where you can find the night markets as well selling imitation watches, bags, clothes and pens.

Walk along the side where the cafes are and you can find people touting....shoving sheets of papers in your hands asking you to go inside to see "ping pong" shows.

Shopping / Local Markets: Shopping and more shopping
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • Shopping is one of the main reasons people visit Bangkok.

Besides the weekend market, local markets are everywhere along the streets.

MBK - a lot of small shops that sell almost anything. you can also buy the local delicacies from the shops here

Platinum Fashion Mall - a lot of shops selling clothes and accessories. great for the ladies

Siam Discovery center,Central - More big name shops

Siam Sqaure - great places for the young people to hang out, with plenty of little restaurants and shops too
