A not quite world traveller...yet

Hello there! Please make yourself comfortable, pour a glass of wine (careful not to spill on the keyboard!) and enjoy my views and observations.

I haven't been many places, but my all time favorite place at the moment is Slovakia. The photo at the top is one of my favorite views of Vysoke Tatry (High Tatras). It was taken from a moving train in Jan 1999.

And my trip to the UK in March 2003 was amazing. I hope I will do justice to the wonders of that gracious, beautiful country in the pages I will be constructing over the coming weeks.

As I've been constructing my UK pages, I've noticed lots of the photos on my older pages (2000 and before) have deteriorated. I don't know why and I've posted to the help forum. I am going to find all the 2000 photos and try to scan the ones that have gone weird and redo them if there is no other way.

I've used the name "Zmrzlina," which means "ice cream" in Slovak, on the Internet since 1996. It was given to me by a Slovak exchange student who lived with us at the time. We always had lots of ice cream in the house and he thought that would be a great name for me. I love how it sounds though I can't begin to pronounce it properly.

I've no Slovak heritage, but I do have some good friends who are Slovak. And I don't speak more than a few words, and I can say "nehovorim po slovensky" which means "I don't speak Slovak" :-) It is a very pretty language, but very complicated grammar.

One of my interests is postcard collecting, but not just any postcard. I collect postcards of government buildings, map postcards and UNESCO World Heritage sites. And when I travel, I send out many, many postcards. That is what I do when waiting in queues or on the train. Always have postcards, pen and addresses handy.
