great place near many outdoor activities

Calais is a great place to lodge in downeast main. There is a Walmart, supermarket, pharmacies, gift shops, Dutie free store, Golf Course and restaurants all located here. Recommended lodging Calais motor Inn where you can eat at the hotel or accross the street at the Wicachee diner. Restaurants recommended, Calais Motor Inn, Schooner Pub & restaurant, Kwan Wa Chinese food or in season Robbinson is nearby and offers fine dining at the Red Cliff. If you're looking for a sandwich or sub...they're all pretty empty in comparison to other cities and pizza cost 2 times or more than any other area traveled but it's offered none the less. Do not recommend Bernadini's Restaurant which advertises Italian food. If you're expecting autentic italian it's sure to be a disappointment even the bread is a sliced hoagie roll. Calais is a border town and you can go discover the canadian coast which has lots to offer as well.
Campers can take advantage of Cobscook state park with it's breathtaking views absolutely gorgeous. Sportsmens paradise is just north in Princeton w/ fishing & hunting galore. There are hiking trails both in town and in nearby towns and the MooseHorn wildlife refuge is sure to prove to be a great day out. Calais is located perfectly convienient to all of Down East Maines best features.
