A Lot of History

Decatur, Illinois is a small town in central Illinois that has a great amount of history not known to the casual traveler. As I drove throught the city, I was captivated by the number of old buildings in the down town area. The First Presbyterian church was constructed around the turn of the century with carved stone patterns that reflect late Gothic influence. The other captivating appeal of Decatur are the numerous old homes that are truly antique eclectic. One section, Milikin place, holds show place homes designed by Frank Lloyd Wright which show designs far ahead of his contempories. Another surprise was the surprising affordable prices of some of these old homes. The city offers the tantilizing decor of historic homes, lakeshore life, and a wide choice of restaurants to indulge one's gastronic desires.
