After reading a couple of the travel books, Athens sounded slightly more charming than a truck stop. However, we absolutely loved the city, the sights, food and especially the people of the Greek capitol.

There are many fantastic sights in Athens. Our favorites were the Archaeological Museum, Benaki Museum, The Agora, and The Kerameikos. You will need at least 3 full days to do Athens right. Five days to take it at a more relaxing pace.

Also, we visited December, 2006, just before Christmas. For some reason thsi is the low-low season in Athens and Greece in general. The weather was wonderful for sightseeing, highs in the 60's and there were absolutely no crowds at any of the sights. Not great beach weather, but who can complain when hotel prices are down and you have major tourist destinations practically to yourself. Frineds of ours went in July, and the temperature was in the 90's and very humid, and in their pic's there was nothings bu crowds. My advice, go in winter.

The people of Athens and Greece in general seem very sincere and honest in their appreciation and love of life. They are so friendly and outgoing and are truly in love with their country. They love their heritage, food and each other.
