| | By our geographic situation Portugal, Spain and Morocco have a past history together. In the south of Portugal remains signs of that times, like trees, constructions or words. For example, the word Algarve (the place where I am from) has a Arabian origin.
Portugal lost one young king called D. Sebastião in 1578, in a battle in Alcácer-Quibir, a place near a village called Suaken, what guided to a big crisis in our monarchy. Until today there is a legend, that D. Sebastião will return in his white horse in a fog day to save us. When I arrived to Marrakech, I visited the ruins of a palace, built to celebrate their victory in this battle, that they call “Battle of the three kings”. I felt connection: we have a long history together, since they invade us in 711. |
